Local Public Eatery

5 places for holiday brunch in Liberty Village

Neighbourhood | Written on December 12, 2014

LOCAL Public Eatery was recently anointed by blogTO as the best new restaurant in Liberty Village. We couldn’t help but pay homage to some of our other favourite restaurants in the neighbourhood—namely, our favourite brunch spots. Whether your friends and family are visiting or you just want to get a bite to eat with special someone, here are the best brunch spots to try this holiday season.

LOCAL Public Eatery

LOCAL Public Eatery inspired this list, so of course we had to include it! This restaurant claims to be “kind of like your living room, with better food and people to serve you beer.” We’re okay with that. On the brunch menu you’ll find classics like eggs benedict, banana pancakes and fried egg sandwich.

SCHOOL

With interior design that will bring you back to the days of textbooks and chalkboards, SCHOOL is a nostalgic yet modern nook where you’ll want to hang all morning. With plenty of space for big groups, SCHOOL serves up the best French Toast in Toronto. Try the Krispy Krunch French Toast, which is rolled in Snap, Crackle + Pop with Orange Maple Marmalade and Sugar Dust.

Mildred’s Temple Kitchen

Having initially opened in 1989, MTK (as it’s known around the neighbourhood) is a staple. Eighteen years later, the restaurant still offers seasonal and delicious fare, including Mrs. Biederhof’s Legendary Light & Fluffy Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes, served with Lanark County maple syrup.

Brazen Head

If you’re an expat looking for a pub that’s perfect for deep reflection and good old-fashioned Irish brooding, try Brazen Head. The pub is an ode to Ireland’s first recorded Public House, opened in 1198. Like the historic pub in Ireland, this Liberty Village building has a deep history and was involved in artillery manufacturing during WWI. The pub offers classic egg and bacon dishes, alongside brazen-sounding dishes like Chicken ‘n’ Waffles.

Aroma

If you’re looking for something a little more casual, head to Aroma for a quick breakfast sandwich and coffee. This cozy Liberty Village location is great for meeting friends or finishing up some last minute work on your laptop in the morning.
