DIY Your Heart Out: Home Hardware Comes to Liberty VillageNeighbourhood | Written on February 26, 2015
The long awaited and much needed Home Hardware has arrived in Liberty Village. We’re looking forward to having an appliance and home décor store in one within walking distance finally. With the store’s soft opening a couple of week ago and its official launch just last week, we went in to speak to owner and manager, Todd Coffell about what prompted him to come to Liberty Village, DIY ideas for first-time condo owners as well as the team’s social media efforts (they want to hear from you)!
Liberty: It seemed like a hardware store was the one thing that was missing from our neighbourhood and you’ve come to fill the void.
Todd: Yeah, well rather than people having a long walk ahead of them or having to take the TTC, or even borrow someone’s car… there’s definitely the convenience factor for the residents in this area with this location. We’re hoping to make it easy for people. We also get items delivered to the store for pick-up.
Liberty: What would you suggest as some simple DIY tips for someone who wants to add a bit of a personal touch to their space and what would you say that first-timers should stay away from?
Todd: Paint is the easiest and quickest way to change up a space. We have a large paint section and we’re able to mix custom colours right here in-store. I would say that condo owners, especially new ones, if you’re not sure what you’re doing, seek out advice. We’re now here to help out if people need it. They may be looking to make changes that they shouldn’t be made and which a contractor would be needed for, like electrical work. We also carry home décor that people may not realize Home Hardware sells. We have the items up front and they’re mostly small things that can really add a finishing touch to a home.
Liberty: You’ve been utilizing social media to your advantage, tell us a bit about that.
Todd: Being a smaller format store we don’t have the ability to carry everything, but we got on Facebook early on to try and get a feel for what it is that people in the area are looking for. Hopefully we’ll meet their needs right off the bat but it’s certainly a feeling out process. We’ve already found lots of things that we didn’t originally have that we’re bringing in stock.
Liberty: What are you most excited about opening up shop in the area?
Todd: I fell in love with the area when my friends and family moved here so I decided to follow suit. I’m originally from a smaller town and I get a more homey feel from Liberty Village, while it’s still busy and fun…it’s still Toronto. It’s great to be able to live and have my own business in this area. It’s something that over the last couple of days of being open has put a smile on my face: seeing people come into the store, excited that we’re here.
Liberty Village Home Hardware, located at 171 East Liberty St. is open seven days a week and has a friendly staff available to answer your home renovation questions. You can also connect with them and make suggestions via their Facebook Page.
