Fort York’s Gingerbread Make and BakeFun | Written on December 21, 2015
It’s been a busy, festive and fun month at Fort York. They have masterfully created events that blend their rich history with the spirit of the holiday season. From their Frost Fair: Christmas Market Past & Present to their invitation to sample holiday treats in the Fort York 1826 Officers’ Mess Kitchen, it’s truly been a great month and holiday season at Fort York.
The holiday festivities aren’t quite finished yet however. From Sunday, December 27 to Thursday, December 31, Fort York will be hosting another festive and family-friendly event. There is a lot to see and learn about Fort York and, this holiday season, while you tour their grounds and experience the history of the area, they will be offering a hands-on cooking workshop for kids 4 years and older.
It is Fort York however, so this won’t just be any other cooking workshop! Children participating in the workshop will be helping Fort York’s chefs in the Officers’ Mess kitchen. They’ll be making delicious gingerbread cookies, using only utensils and cookware from the 1800’s. The recipe that the kids will be following will also be from the 1800’s and includes the same wonderful ingredients that make gingerbread the mouth-watering holiday treat that it is— flour, cloves, crushed cinnamon, allspice, sugar, nutmeg, ginger and more.
This extra dose of holiday deliciousness at Fort York is included in the regular price of admission— Adults: $9.00, Seniors (65+): $5.50, Youths (13–18 yrs.): $5.50, Children (6–12 yrs.): $4.25 and Children (5 and under): free. Fort York is open weekdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm and on weekends from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Museum Store and workshops are limited to 15 participants.
Enjoy some extra holiday cheer and holiday yumminess in the Liberty Village area at Fort York’s Gingerbread Make and Bake this month.
