Let’s go to the Ex: What we’re looking forward to this year at Exhibition PlaceFun | Written on March 12, 2015
Exhibition place is easily a Toronto staple. As one of the oldest event spaces in the city, it has put on fantastic affairs for residents for over one hundred years. Its beaux-arts architecture and proximity to Lake Ontario are all iconic factors that make it so renowned to this day. We’re highlighting some of our favourites coming up within the next few months that you can enjoy as a family, with friends, on your own or as a fun date idea.
March 13-22—National Home Show
Canada’s largest and longest running home ware consumer show provides attendees with an infinite amount of interior design and garden makeover options. More than 700 home and garden experts attend, offering advice, products and inspiration for those who are looking to feng shui their digs.
March 25-29—One of a Kind Spring show and sale
Like the name suggests, Canada’s finest bi-annual craft show brings together artists, designers and craftspeople to showcase and sell their unique creations. Shop from 450 different Canadian artisans with items ranging from jewelry to clothing and even food items such as marmalades and toffee bark. If you’re looking to give your look (or your taste buds) an overhaul, this is your one stop shop.
April 10-12—Toronto’s Spring Bridal Show
Hum it with us: “Here comes the show, quick get dressed let’s go!” The Spring edition of the city’s largest bridal and wedding show comes to the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place just in time for a quickly planned summer wedding (or fall/winter if you’re planning on a longer engagement). Saying yes to the dress won’t be difficult with the multiple boutiques showcasing their designs. It’s not all about the A-line and Mermaid styles however. Cross off another to-do on your wedding list by picking out the perfect DJ for your reception (are you more of an oldies lover or shake to top 40)?
July 10-26—Pan Am Games
The much-awaited Pan American Games are coming to Toronto this summer and some of the sporting events will take place at different venues in the Exhibition Centre. The Exhibition Stadium, Toronto Coliseum, and the Exhibition Centre itself will all host athletes from around the world as they vie for gold. Tickets will sell out quickly as this isn’t a yearly Toronto event (a new city entertains each year) so we suggest grabbing some as soon as possible to ensure your spot at the prestigious games!
August 21-September 7—Canadian National Exhibition a.k.a. The Ex
Toronto’s most famous yearly bazaar is almost as old as the city. Launching in 1879 as the Toronto Industrial Exhibition it’s risen to being one of North America’s top agricultural fairs. You can experience a multitude of amusing events including rides, games, food (anything deep fried being a specialty) and talented performers entertaining mass crowds. The famous Labour Day Parade, yearly revolving exhibits, a casino and an air show are also all part of the itinerary. Enjoy a funnel cake (but not right before riding a rollercoaster) and have the most fun you’ll experience all summer.
