The Incredible Field Trip Community Music and Arts Festival Returns for Another Fun Year

Fun | Written on June 1, 2016

It’s musical. It’s food-filled. It’s fun. It’s artistic. It involves humour… But really, the word that comes to mind when we think of the Field Trip Community Music and Arts Festival happening on June 4 and 5 at Fort York is “epic”! Yup, in Liberty Village, we’re really excited about this event, and not just because of the incredible artist line-up or the amazing Field Trip experience as a whole. We’re especially psyched because this awesome event is happening right here in our area! With the Field Trip Community Music and Arts Festival and all that it offers taking place in our neighbourhood, it’s setting the stage for what us, Villagers, expect will be an amazing and very eventful summer season. Liberty Village really is an exciting, convenient and really, really cool place to live.

So what is the Field Trip Community Music and Arts Festival? For us, the word, “community” is most synonymous with what the Field Trip Festival represents. It’s an annual event that brings together people from across our city who are interested in enjoying the food, comedy, world-class music, artistry, fashion and technology-themed activities that form a part of an incredible weekend-long event.

And to complement this great music line-up, attendees can also experience a dose of artistry by way of the “Analogue Gallery Sound Image Exhibition”. This exhibit will feature a display of the best in Canadian music photography and will be available for viewing inside the Fort York site’s historic barracks building. Talk about a perfect backdrop! Alongside these great Canadian music photos, there will also be several related images from previous Field Trip festivals.

The incredible art doesn’t end there! The Field Trip Festival will transform the Fort York and Garrison Common grounds into a “diverse retreat” with images and installations from the event’s emergent artists in residence. Fort York’s green spaces will become a wholly vibrant and immersive artistic experience for attendees and, given the amazing artists and art work of previous years – including work by Heather Goodchild, Young Offenders and SPAZZ – we simply can’t wait to view this year’s art!

And once attendees have fed their minds with thought-provoking art, it will surely be time to feed their stomachs! At this year’s Field Trip Festival, as in previous years, attendees will have an array of great culinary vendors to choose from. There will be food showcases as well as culinary experts onsite who will be showing off some original creations! You don’t have to be a foodie to be excited about this aspect of the Field Trip Community Music and Arts Festival!

Wait, there’s more? Absolutely! There will also be lots at the Field Trip Festival that caters to families and kids! At the Mess Hall with Ivy Knight, summer camp meets delicious foodie fare when cookbook author, food writer and expert in all things food-related, Ivy Knight leads a culinary food program. And things really may get messy! Ivy Knight has been creating awesome ways to play with food for years. Bring it on, Ivy!

Kids will also be treated to the Field Trip Community Music and Art Festival’s TD Day Camp. Get ready for this because there’ll be bouncy castles, hula hoops, ping pong tables, performances by music schools and invited guests and oh so much more! This isn’t just for kids, right? We’d love to sign up for all this fun!

Notwithstanding, there’ll be lots of keep adults entertained at the Field Trip Festival! In addition to the great music and equally great food, the “Laugh Barracks” will be making a return this year. This Festival feature includes a soundstage where local comedians bring on loads of funniness. We’re certain that the Laugh Barracks will have attendees in throes of uncontrollable laughter! And of course, attendees will also be able to shop for pieces ranging from art to unique fashion. There will be exclusive collections available so be prepared to browse and do a bit of shopping!
