Vroom Vroom, Honda Indy Speeds Our Way

Our engines are revved…and so is our excitement! It’s that time of year again. We’re talking of course about the event that’s all about speed, cool cars, and a whole lot of fun! The 2016 Honda Indy gets underway this year on Friday, July 15 and continues until Sunday July 17. Feeling the need for speed? Then you certainly won’t want to miss this year’s event cause it’s back with all the incredible activities and offerings that make the Honda Indy an event for everyone and anyone looking for a fun (and fast) weekend activity in Toronto.

The name “Honda Indy” isn’t a misnomer. The Honda Indy really does have lots to do with the “Honda” brand. These sexy Honda products on display will include:

That’s only the beginning though, and not nearly where this event’s three days of fun will stop. The 2016 Honda Indy will be jam packed with tons of other sources of entertainment, both on the track and off, for adults and younger audiences alike. Event organizers have arranged the Honda Indy Festival into zones and sections that offer a variety of great ways to engage in the spirit of the event. The Honda Indy “Beer Gardens” will offer a selection of domestic and imported beers as well as food from Pinty’s Pub and Grill.

And as for the racing and celebrations? At the Paddock/Garage Access level, patrons will be able to enjoy:

Verizon IndyCar Series – located at the Enercare Centre; entry will be permitted only to those with the necessary credentials

NASCAR Pinty’s Series – Infield; open to the public

Mazda Road to Indy – located at the Enercare Centre; open to the public

Porsche GT3 Cup – Infield; open to the public

Stadium Super Trucks – Speed Zone; open to the public

The Victory Circle Pre-Race Ceremonies and the Champagne Celebration; open to the public

There will also be face painting, photo opportunities and tons more! For this incredible three-day event, the schedule leaves nothing to be desired. It all begins on Friday at 8:00am, with the day’s activities scheduled to end at 6:45pm. Friday will feature a series of practice races ranging in time from twenty-five minutes to an hour. The lone qualifying race on Friday will be the NASCAR Pinty’s Series which will last 1 hour, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. On Saturday, July 16, it all begins at 7:50am. Saturday will be a full day, with practice runs, qualifying races and spectator races in the Atrium. The first race – the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship race – will run from 11:30am to 12:10pm and the day’s final race will be the “Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama” race, which is scheduled to begin at 6:15pm and end at 7:00pm. On Sunday, the gates will open at 8:00am, followed shortly thereafter by the “Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship” race, beginning at 8:25am. There will be one practice run on Sunday amidst the day’s ongoing races— the Verizon IndyCar Series practice race, from 10:30am to 11:00am. The Honda Indy pre-race ceremonies on Sunday kick off at 2:15pm, followed by driver introductions and then 85 laps. So what will it cost you to be a part of the 2016 Honda Indy action? There are several levels of pricing, depending on seating, days and package deals. General admission pricing begins at $40 for single entry for 1 day. Two-day passes start at $50 and passes for all 3 event days also start at $50. Ontario Honda Dealers are also offering patrons who will be attending the event on Friday, free admission in exchange for a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There really is a lot to be excited about at this festival. And for us in Liberty Village, all of this incredible action will be taking place mere minutes from our neighbourhood at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place.
